Bread and Breakfast

This morning I woke up and immediately went into the kitchen to get some bread going in the bread machine. I got a 10 grain bread mix by Bob's Red Mill at the grocery store the other day and really wanted to try it out. The ingredient list: unbleached white flour, 7 grain cereal, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, evaporated cane juice, gluten flour, non-fat dry milk, dark rye flour, brown rice flour, corn flour, millet flour, oat flour, barley flour, white bean flour, triticale flour, corn grits, millet grits, sea salt, active dry yeast, and soy lecithin.
Looks amazing except for the fact that the first ingredient is white flour, but I'm not going to get too picky because I realize yeast breads can get rather dense with all the grains and whole wheat flours when there's no white flour in there to lighten it up. I dumped it in, along with some water and a couple tablespoons of oil and pressed start. Gosh that was easy.
Mixing away...
Sadly, even with a bread machine, yeast bread takes forever, so if you're have an urge for yeast bread make sure you can wait a couple hours. Otherwise..well, I guess you're out of luck :P
Just 3 hours and 38 minutes till yeasty goodness...plus cooling time.
After I got that going I set out to make breakfast. I made an oldie but a goodie, the english muffin egg sandwich. I usually do this with a piece of bacon and a scrambled egg but today I didn't feel like dirtying a million dishes. I remembered we had this crazy microwave egg poacher so I opted to use that instead.
I am ET. Or am I Wall-E? Definitely Wall-E. With out one eye.
I remembered that you had to fill the other well with water and even that you had to pierce the yolk, but I completely forgot how long you had to cook it for. So I just kind of winged it.
Well, there goes my other eye..
I put it in for a minute 20 and I think I put it in way to long because it started making popping sounds. (And now that I've looked online it says that you're supposed to cook them for 60 to 90 seconds so I was doing it right..huh) I took the egg out and it was definitely cooked, a little too cooked. Eh, whatever.
The components.
I put the egg on a toasted whole grain english muffin, seasoned it with salt & pepper and topped it with some (still leftover) ham.
Okay so not so pretty...
But surprisingly good! Okay so the egg was way overcooked, it was kind of like a hard boiled egg, but for some reason I couldn't get the taste of this sandwich off my mind all day, it was really yummy.
Steamy eggy goodness.
On the side, a clementine and french press coffee.
And the comics :D
After breakfast I digested a bit before I set out for a 5.5 mile run. I tried running this same route a couple weeks ago and ended up getting a little lost and ended up running/walking) 8 miles. Not fun. I was hungry, had a runny nose, thirsty, and all sorts of sore (not the best time to test out your brand new running shoes; uhm yeah blisters all over the place). I knew I loved running but when I thought about running my mind associated it with being, well, not fun. However, today the running conditions were perfect so I decided to just go with it. It sure felt good to run the home stretch back home! I did very well (only walked up the super steep rocky hills) and the scenery is always such a joy to run through. I go on a trail that runs along a lake and there's a couple water fountains along my route so I don't have to bring a water bottle.
Some scenery that I could live without however was a random decapitated animal foot on the sidewalk. It looked to be maybe a deer's hoof but the fur was black. Very bizarre and disturbing.

After I drank a huge cup of water and refueled with a couple chocolate covered pomegranates I checked out my bread loaf. This bread machine makes a pretty crazy looking loaf but as long as it tastes good I'm all for it.
Pretty big for a 1 1/2 pound loaf!
I let it cool for a bit before I sliced me a piece. I know you're supposed to wait until it's completely cool to slice it (so the loaf doesn't dry out) but come on! Who's going to be willing to do that when they have this puppy staring at them?! Not me, that's for sure.
The crazy-shaped top piece wouldn't work for toast so I just sliced the top off and sliced another peice for me.
Look at that grainy glory..
You think anyone will notice if I just put the top back on?
Half toasted, half fluffy, all topped with peanut butter and jelly.
I love how when you toast thick pieces of bread the outsides are super crunchy while the inside stays fluffy. MMM this was amazing, especially after a long run :D
On the side, sliced zucchini and chipotle hummus.
Combo got kind of weird after a while..
As you have probably noticed, I eat things separately. Usually for breakfast and lunch I'll eat my main thing and then eat my side thing afterward, never together. Just Carlyn weirdness; you'll get used to it (:

Off to eat more almond joy cookie bars I made tonight! Those things are really good; I'll do a post on them tomorrow.
